For many years, I have preached and harped on the art of time blocking. For the same amount of years, I have heard the groaning from most everyone as to how difficult or darn near impossible this is to accomplish. In fact it seems like the task of creating a self managed schedule actually adds to the “overwhelmed” feeling that the task itself is designed to eliminate.
So after some thought, and a meeting with one such overwhelmed individual, I decided to offer a simplified plan to try out during the final months of 2019. (We have about 4 left).
1. List 5 personal goals and 5 business goals that you wish to accomplish by December 31.
2.Write 3 things that you will have to do to accomplish each goal.
3. Recognize the 3 Categories that consume your time during waking hours:
Personal
Family/Friends
Business
Give each of these a % of total time spent. This does not count sleeping!
4. List 5 things that are not part of those categories that suck your time almost unconsciously.
Things like Facebook, mindless games, life depleting “obligations” etc.
5. Write down and vow to eliminate 2 of these by year end.
Use that extra time to accomplish the goals you listed in #1.
P.S I am embarking on a wonderful journey, where I will be devoting 100% of my time to personal and husband time. See you soon!
